All AF Lisboa matches suspended due to attacks on referees and bad weather

The Lisbon Football Association (AFL) decided this Wednesday to suspend all its competitions, between Friday and Sunday, due to the attacks on the referees that occurred last weekend and the bad weather that has been plaguing the region.

“The leadership of the AFL hopes that, with this extraordinary measure, there will be a period of deep reflection on the serious events that have occurred, in the sense of their total eradication, as well as that it will allow all the necessary conditions to be restored for the normal practice of the sport.”, Justifies the body.

The AFL regrets the “barbaric attacks perpetrated against the referees”, to whom it expresses “total solidarity”, waiting for “due action from the competent bodies and institutions” to sanction the offenders.

Likewise, it refers to the “bad weather” that has been plaguing the Lisbon district, recalling that it “caused considerable damage to the sports infrastructure” of several affiliated clubs, preventing their activity.

“May the silence in our fields and pavilions, during the next weekend, be propitious for all of us to become aware that sport, and in particular football, futsal and beach soccer, is that, and only that: Sport!” concludes the AFL.
