The Moroccan Football Association (FRMF) defends that the Moroccan selection in the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup against France was harmed (it was eliminated 2-0), the organization announced on Thursday, which admits to having appealed, together with the “competent authority”, against the arbitration.
“The FRMF sent an email to the competent authority in which it reported on the refereeing situations that deprived the Moroccan team of two indisputable penalties, according to the opinion of several specialists,” the federation said in a statement.
The “competent authority” is not mentioned in the note.
During the semi-final between France and Morocco, the only yellow card of the match was shown to Moroccan Boufal, after colliding with Frenchman Theo Hernández, a penalty the FRMF deemed “too harsh”.
On the other hand, the Moroccan players defend that the Frenchman Tchouaméni grabbed En-Nesyry by the waist in the area.
The FRMF says it is protesting “vigorously” against Mexican referee César Arturo Ramos and is surprised because “the video refereeing device (VAR) did not react to these situations”.
The Moroccan federation “will make every effort to defend and preserve the rights of national teams, to preach fairness in arbitration and to denounce these arbitration decisions” of the semi-final, the statement added.
Ramos, 38, refereed the 2018 World Cup and officiated three matches in Qatar, including Morocco’s 2-0 win over Belgium in the group stage.
