Benfica-Sporting: PSP asks the fans to arrive early at the stadium

This Friday, the PSP asked the fans to arrive on time at the Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, on Sunday, for the derby between Benfica and Sporting, for the 16th round of the 1st Portuguese football league.

In the press conference prior to the “high risk” game, the Public Security Police (PSP) called on the fans who will witness the clash to arrive after 4:00 p.m., when the doors of the ‘red’ venue open.

“We ask people to plan their journey ahead of time,” said PSP manager Francisco Alves, suggesting that fans use public transport to get to Estádio da Luz, especially as some access roads to the stadium will be upgraded.

Regarding the Sporting fans, the police said that they must meet between gates six and seven of the Estádio José Alvalade, also in Lisbon, until 3:00 p.m., when the police operation will begin to accompany the fans to the Estádio da Luz.

The security device has several “multidisciplinary” teams that will create a “perimeter” around the venue to guarantee “strong visibility”, and there will be the “same” level of vigilance as in other games, said mayor Francisco Alves.

With an estimated capacity of around 60,000 spectators, the derby between Benfica, leader of the championship with 40 points, and Sporting, fourth with 28, is scheduled for Sunday, at 6:00 p.m., at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon.

The mayor asked that “police rules and guidelines be respected so that, in the end, only talk about the fact.”
