Nadal out of Australian Open after clash with McDonald

The Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal, the number two in the world, was defeated on Wednesday in the second round of the Australian Open by North American Mackenzie McDonald.

Natal lost to Mcdonald (65th in the ATP ranking) in three sets with the Partials 6-4, 6-4 and 7-5, in an encounter that lasted about two and a half hours.

The 36-year-old Spaniard blamed physical problems in the second ‘set’ of the meeting.

Joao Sousa out

Portuguese tennis player João Sousa in turn lost to Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut at the Australian Open in a match in which the national number one was defeated in three ‘sets’.

In a match that was interrupted by rain on Tuesday and resumed today, João Sousa was beaten 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2.

João Sousa (81st ATP), whose best singles result at Melbourne Park was his third-round presence in 2015, 2016 and 2019, will also compete in the doubles table alongside compatriot Francisco Cabral.

On Monday, Nuno Borges was also eliminated in the first ’round’ of the Australian Open by the Italian Lorenzo Sonego, in a match that consisted of four ‘sets’ (7-6, 6-3, 6-7 and 6-1).
