A spectator suffered a cardiac arrest during the match between Sporting de Braga and Benfica for the quarter-finals of the Portuguese football cup on Thursday and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The spectator in the eastern stand of Estádio Municipal de Braga, intended for Sporting de Braga supporters, was assisted by Red Cross volunteers in the first 10 minutes of the match.
After the meeting, during the press conference, with the communication director for the Minho region, Alexandre Carvalho, he said that the person in question had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest, after which he was subsequently taken to hospital.
During the minute’s silence over the earthquake that has hit southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, which killed more than 20,000 people according to official figures released Thursday evening, some supporters were heard calling for the action of Red Cross volunteers, who steps from the bench to the spot.
