Surfer Frederico Morais will compete in the MEO Rip Curl Pro, the third leg of the World Surfing League (WSL) main circuit, in Peniche. “The Kikas [alcunha do português] coming to MEO Pro in March with the wildcard [convite] of MEO,” said Miguel Guerra, responsible for sponsorship and events of the telecommunications operator, today at the press conference to present the national surfing circuit, adding that he will also “appeal” to the WSL to try to get another job opening for Guilherme Ribeiro, the current Portuguese champion.
Frederico Morais, three-time national champion (2013, 2015 and 2020), who was part of the world’s elite last season but failed to secure a place for the current season, attended the launch event of the MEO Surf League 2023, organized by the National Association of Surfers (ANS) and stressed that his priority is to re-qualify for the main circuit in 2024, but he was excited about the opportunity to ‘rejoice’ at the WSL main circuit in March, at Supertubos beach.
“The expectation is good. Peniche has always been a place where I’ve done well, I’ve had good results and I feel at home. I’m always well received, the crowd is incredible and always on our side. And this time I don’t have the pressure of the points, or the ranking, or the pressure of anything. I’m just going to surf and it will feel good in a way,” the 31-year-old athlete told reporters on the sidelines of the event. Lisbon.
The MEO Rip Curl Pro will take place at Praia de Supertubos, in Peniche, between March 8 and 16.
