Amorim plays his 100th game in Chaves: “The best was when we were champions”

Rúben Amorim has two certainties for the 100th game with a lion on his chest: Sporting has a lot to improve and António Adán remains in the lion’s goal against Desportivo de Chaves (Monday, at 7 p.m., Sport TV), nana 21st round of the First League .

“It is a source of pride to be at a club as big as Sporting and to play 100 games. It’s hard to choose the best moment, but being champion gives every coach satisfaction. Worst moment? There are several, when she [jogadores] they play badly and I think the team should give more, they are always bad moments. The best was when we were champions,” said the leonine coach, admitting that he feels quite accomplished: “I thought I was born to play, but maybe I was more born to be a coach.”

And he is the one who has to find solutions to win matches and make the team play better after the draw with Midtjylland (1-1), for the Europa League, and the defeat with FC Porto (2-1), for the I Competition: “We have to keep our identity because the game has 90 minutes and we only need 10 seconds to reach the goal and score a goal.”

Last Thursday, Adán’s mistake in Midtjylland’s goal was no longer punishable because Coates scored the equalizer in the last shot of the game, but that says little about the goalkeeper’s performance, according to the leonine coach. “Adán has made a mistake here or there this season and the mistake is very visible. What we did was evaluate the good decisions he made. Of course, this counts little if a goalkeeper makes a mistake.” How many of our players just had to push the ball into the goal and failed?Amorim wondered and guaranteed that the Spaniard will go to Trás-os-Montes.

Alvalade’s low assists are a “reflection” of the irregular season. “We have always had the support of Sporting fans, we are fourth, we have to accept that. We have to play our part and then the Sporting fans will return en masse to the stadium. But we are not naive and we need to understand that,” Amorim admitted.
