Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, top scorer of the Spanish football league, has a muscle injury in his left thigh and is unavailable at FC Barcelona, the Catalan emblem announced on Monday.
On his official website, the leader of the Spanish championship confirmed the physical problem of the 34-year-old player, who took part full-time in Sunday’s defeat at Almeria (1-0), and that the injury to the back of the thigh is followed by the medical department of the club.
FC Barcelona has not disclosed Lewandowski’s expected time offbut it is almost certain that he will be absent from Thursday’s game against Real Madrid, in the Spanish capital, in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals. According to the Spanish press, the attacker should stop for about two weekswhich means that his participation in Poland’s start in qualifying for Euro2024 is in principle not in jeopardy.
At the end of March, Poland will meet the Czech Republic and Albania in Group E matches, in what will be the absolute debut of new coach, Portugal’s Fernando Santos.
In his first season at FC Barcelona, Lewandowski scored 25 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions and leads the La Liga top scorer list with 15.
