Portugal’s Marta Pen qualified today for the 1,500 meters final of the European Indoor Athletics Championships, in Istanbul, Turkey, finishing second in her round, while Salomé Afonso was eliminated.
Marta Pen, 29 years old, came second in the second of three qualifying heats, in 04:23:30 minutes, behind Britain’s Laura Miur (04:23:20), qualifying directly for the final.
The Benfica athlete, who has 04.06.94 as her personal best and 04.08.28 as her best mark of the year, will return to the track at Istanbul’s Ataköy Arena on Saturday, in the 1,500 meters final, on Saturday from 20:00 local time (17:00 in Lisbon).
Salomé Afonso did not get past the qualifications on her debut in the ‘indoor’ European Championship and finished seventh and last of the third heat of the 1,500 meters, in 04:16.59.
The Sporting athlete has a personal best of 04:12.12, set earlier this year.
