The executive director of Benfica’s SAD, Domingos Soares de Oliveira, is leaving Luz’s club, Record reports this Wednesday.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the governing bodies of the red wines, which took place this Wednesday, after the prosecution charged Benfica’s SAD, Benfica Estádio, Luís Filipe Vieira, Domingos Soares de Oliveira and four other defendants and a company with the crime of tax fraud and document forgery, in the context of the so-called Saco Azul trial.
According to the newspaper, during today’s meeting, one of the vice presidents and other members of the governing bodies threatened to leave Benfica if there was no clarity on Soares de Oliveira’s situation. SAD Benfica’s co-CEO is now leaving, but should stay until the end of the season.
The former president of Benfica and Benfica SAD, Luís Filipe Vieira, is charged with three counts of tax fraud and 19 counts of forgery, as well as SAD’s still administrator, Soares de Oliveira, and financial director Miguel Moreira. Benfica SAD and Benfica Estádio are charged with tax fraud, with the latter also charged with 19 crimes of forgery of documents.
These entities paid about 1.65 million euros to a small IT consultancy, Questão Flexible, whose owner (José Bernardes) allegedly charged 11 percent of the money received to prepare invoices for fictitious services.
Questão Flexible and its owner are charged with three counts of aggravated tax fraud and a total of 34 counts of forgery of documents, and José Bernardes is also charged with one count of tax fraud and another of money laundering
“They were well aware that the Flexible Demand invoices in favor of the companies Benfica, SAD and Benfica Estádio, SA were not a title for economic operations,” the prosecutor accuses.
The public prosecutor understands that this plan involved tax evasion (VAT and IRC) of more than 585 thousand euros, which must be paid “jointly” by all defendants.
