Portugal is a candidate to host the 2025 women’s ‘Champions’ final

Portugal is a candidate to host the 2025 Women’s Champions League final in Lisbon’s Estádio José Alvalade, Prime Minister António Costa announced on Wednesday at the 47th UEFA Congress in Lisbon.

In the opening words of the meeting that will re-elect Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin as president of the body that governs European football for the four-year period until 2027, António Costa revealed Portugal’s candidacy to once again host the women’s ‘Champions’ final.

“At a time of great brilliance of our women’s national football team – for which I congratulate, for the first time we have qualified for a final stage of the World Cup – we are once again candidates for the organization of the Women’s Champions League final. 2025, a competition that we have successfully received in the past,” said António Costa.

The Prime Minister was optimistic when he chose Portugal and Lisbon’s José Alvalade Stadium to host this match, which has already been played in the Portuguese capital, at Estádio do Restelo, in 2023/14, when the Germans from Wolfsburg defeated Swedish Tyreso 4 -3 in the deciding game.

“We are convinced that this will be another candidacy with a positive result,” concludes António Costa.

The 47th UEFA Congress takes place today in the Congress Center of Lisbon.

On Tuesday, the UEFA Executive Committee, also in Lisbon, awarded the organization of the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship to Switzerland, to the detriment of the joint candidacy of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, in the third and final vote, after the pretensions of Poland and France were left behind ‘the road’.
