Abel wins Campeonato Paulista and is the foreign coach with the most titles in Brazil

Palmeiras, the Brazilian club coached by Portugal’s Abel Silva, won the Paulista championship this Sunday, beating Água Santa 4-0 after losing 2-1 in the first leg.

The goals of the São Paulo team were scored by Gabriel Menino (15′ and 27′), Endrick (34′) and Jose Lopez (73′). Água Santa ended the match reduced to ten due to Anderson’s exclusion, at 41′.

With this achievement, Abel became the foreign coach with the most titles in Brazilian football, equaling the record held by Uruguayan Felix Magno – there are eight trophies since he arrived in Palmeiras, surpassing the figures of Argentine Juan Celly and Uruguayan Ventura Cambon surpassed.

Abel’s first title for Palmeiras was the 2020 Libertadores Cup, when Palmeiras defeated Santos in Maracanã 1–0. In the next edition, Alviverde would also win, this time beating Flamengo.

Abel also has a Brazilian Cup (2020), a South American Super Cup (2022), a Brazilian Championship (2022), a Paulista Championship (2022) and a Brazilian Super Cup (2023). And now he added another Paulistão.

This Sunday, another Portuguese coach is also ready to celebrate a title, in the case of Vítor Pereira, of Flamengo, who could win the Campeonato Carioca (match starts at 10:00 PM CET) – in the first leg he defeated Fluminense with 2-0.
