Manchester City is unstoppable and beat Arsenal 4-1 at home this Wednesday, still leader of the English Football League, getting the easy way to add the third consecutive title.
Arsenal remains in possession of the leadership, with 75 points, in 33 games, but with City almost ‘stuck’, with 73, and still two days behind.
Today, at the Etihad stadium in Manchester, there was no doubt who is still the best English team today, with the light blue leaving the path open to win the championship, in addition to continuing to compete in the Cup (final with Manchester). United) and in the Champions League (semi-final with Real Madrid).
The Norwegian Haaland, the best European scorer this season, with 33 league goals, was ‘blank’ until minute 90+5, when finally, after some mistakes, he scored his goal.
However, he continued to be one of the highlights of the night, always tireless and with assists for Belgian international Kevin de Bruyne’s goals in the 7th and 54th minute.
With today’s work, Haaland is the sixth best of the year in terms of assists, in an absolutely fabulous season. And with this goal, he is one of Andy Cole’s single-season record (34).
The Belgian midfielder was clearly the ‘man of the match’, as he also made the Stones’ headed pass from a free kick, at 45+1. Initially cancelled, due to offside, the goal ended up being validated, after the intervention of the VAR.
Arsenal’s goal came in the 86th minute, through a shot by Holding, when the ‘citizens’ were already calmly controlling the game.
With 14 wins and three draws since February, the ‘sky blues’ are on the rise and have everything to prolong their dominance in English football, accentuated since the arrival of coach Pep Guardiola.
The games behind are with West Ham and Brighton, having just won one of them to move to the front of a championship that seemed lost to Arsenal.
The Londoners, even so, continue to have an excellent championship -but Mikel Arteta’s pupils still do not have the automatisms of their current rival-.
The Portuguese Bernardo Silva and Rúben Dias were once again in City’s starting eleven, this time with more discreet performances.
Bernardo Silva did not participate in the scoring, but he did a good job in the field of recovery. Rúben Dias, one of the three center backs, saw the yellow card for kicking the whites.
Worse than Arsenal is Chelsea, who lost 2-0 at home to Brentford, taking their winless run to eight.
The team that includes the Portuguese João Félix and the Argentine Enzo Fernández, who started the season at Benfica, is in 11th place, with 39 points, and will miss the next European club competitions.
In the millionaire London team, Fernández was in the starting eleven and left in the 79th minute, giving way to Félix.
Azpilicueta scored an own goal at 37′ and Mbeumo scored at 78′.
Liverpool, with Diogo Jota in the starting eleven and playing 59 minutes, beat West Ham 2-1 in London and is already sixth in the Conference League.
Lucas Paquetá scored for West Ham (12) and Gakpo (18) and Matip (67) scored for Liverpool.
With Brighton 3-1, Nothingam Forest managed to get out of the relegation zone and now has 30 points, one more than Leicester, first of the ‘condemned’.
