Andreas Leknessund new overall leader and Paret-Peintre wins the fourth stage of the Giro

Norwegian cyclist Andreas Leknessund (DSM) took the lead on Tuesday in the Tour of Italy overall, finishing second in the fourth stage, won by Frenchman Aurélien Paret-Peintre (AG2R-Citroën).

The 27-year-old Frenchman completed the 175 kilometers between Venosa and Lago Laceno in 4:16.04 hours, beating the new pink jersey by two seconds, with the Latvian Toms Skujins (Trek-Segafredo), another of the members of the breakaway of the day, in third place, 57 seconds.

Overall, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) came 2.01 minutes behind the winner and ‘cede’ the lead, now to the Norwegian, with a 28-second advantage over the Belgian and 30 over Paret-Peintre. The Portuguese João Almeida (UAE Emirates) is fourth, one minute behind.

On Wednesday, 171 kilometers link Atripalda with Salerno, with only two categorized mountain heights, far from the finish line and in the third category.
