Rio Ave explained in a statement that the incident took place this Saturday, after the end of the match between the two teams, for the National Youth Championship, which took place in Vila do Conde.
“At a time when the athletes were leaving the Complexo, the Rio Ave under-17 team player Tiago Lucas was already approached outside by a Boavista player and his father, after being cowardly attacked by both,” the club of the Ave estuary revealed .
The same statement said that “this barbaric and criminal behavior has been reported to the police authorities” and added that the attacked player was “under observation at the hospital”.
Rio Ave acknowledged “that it was an act in itself, the exclusive responsibility of a father and his son, which in no way disrupts Boavista’s institution”, but pointed out that “the values and the training mission do not imply any form of violence”.
“Rio Ave strongly condemns the fact that in 2023 there are still these types of behaviors in our society and in particular in our football training spectrum, unfortunately more common than they seem, and unfortunately with the involvement and encouragement of parents who have a bad example of citizenship for their descendants,” the same statement added.
