Formula 1 donates one million euros to the victims of the floods in Italy

Formula 1 announced this Friday the donation of one million euros to help the communities affected by the floods in Italy that caused the cancellation of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, scheduled for Sunday in Imola.

The delivery of funds from the F1 Group, chaired by Stefano Domenicali, originally from Imola, is made to the Emilia-Romagna Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection.

“I was born and raised in the wonderful lands of Emilia-Romagna, a place that is experiencing one of the saddest moments in its history,” says Domenicali, in the tweet published on the subject.

For the Italian, “the situation these communities have to face is terrible. But I know that the resilience and passion of the people of the region, as well as many in Italy, will prevail in this difficult time,” the message added. .

Domenicali vows to “do everything in his power to support them in this difficult time,” continuing: “That’s why we’re making this donation, to help the efforts on the ground.”

“Our thoughts, on behalf of the entire Formula 1 community, are with all those affected. We also want to thank the emergency services for the incredible job they have done,” the tweet read.

The initiative of the F1 Group follows that of the Ferrari team, closely linked to Imola, which had already donated one million euros.

The tragedy caused, specifically, 13 confirmed deaths, after the 14 rivers between Bologna and the northeast coast of Italy, along 115 kilometers, had overflowed their banks and flooded everything around them, after a day and a half of heavy rains. in which the precipitation was identical to the general average of six months.

There are more than 4,000 displaced people in the 24 municipalities of the region and 50,000 Italians remain without electricity.
