Benfica has reached an agreement to leave the squad of Belgian international soccer player Jan Vertonghen, who will represent Anderlecht for the next two seasons, the Portuguese and Belgian league clubs announced this Friday.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica has reached an agreement with Jan Vertonghen for his definitive departure from the club, being the player from today to represent Anderlecht”, announced the Portuguese I Liga manager on the official website.
Anderlecht welcomed the 35-year-old central defender and pointed out that Vertonghen is the player with the most caps for Belgium, with a total of 139, having scored nine goals.

“I have been following the club for a long time and I am convinced that my experience can contribute to the improvement of this group. It’s the right step in my career and I’m really looking forward to playing my first game”, at Anderlecht’s stadium, said Vertonghen, quoted by the Belgian emblem.
The defender joined Benfica in the 2020/21 season, having played 88 games and scored one goal in the last two seasons. This season he participated in only one game, on August 13, as a substitute against Casa Pía, on the second day of the championship, which the “incarnate” won 1-0.
