FIFA President pays tribute to Berlusconi, soccer ‘visionary’

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Monday that Silvio Berlusconi, who has died aged 86, was a “visionary” in soccer, for planning long before others.

“Many considered him a visionary and they were right. In terms of football, he planned long before others, ”the FIFA official stressed, adding that he would like to remember Berlusconi as someone who made dreams come true.

Sílvio Berlusconi presided over AC Milan for 31 years, during which time the soccer team won five of its seven European titles, one of which was in 1990, when the Rossoneri beat Benfica 1-0 in the final in Vienna.

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi died today in a Milan hospital, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Berlusconi had been admitted to the San Raffaele Hospital since Friday, supposedly for tests.

The leader of the Forza Italia party, media mogul and former AC Milan president was hospitalized for 45 days until three weeks ago, due to pneumonia and leukemia.

On Friday, doctors said Berlusconi had been hospitalized for “scheduled check-ups” and that his condition was neither critical nor alarming, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.

Nicknamed “the immortal” for his longevity in politics, Berlusconi ruled Italy for nine years, three times between 1994 and 2011.
