Twitter, AI, Tesla… What to remember from Elon Musk’s conference at VivaTech

VivaTech’s special guest, Elon Musk held a conference lasting more than an hour at the Dôme de Paris in front of 4,000 people. Let’s go back to the various statements of him.

Arriving like a rockstar before more than 4,000 people who made the trip to see the billionaire, Elon Musk took advantage of this hour on the ViVaTech show to talk about the difficulties of Twitter, the regulation of AI or even SpaceX.

“You represent innovation and ambition”, introduced the founder of VivaTech, Maurice Lévy, listing all his activities. “Some think you are a genius, others less so, what do you think?”

He also joked early on: “It’s methamphetamine that motivates me. It gives me wings,” he quips when asked by Maurice Lévy about his sources of business motivation.

AI, “a disruptive power”

The OpenAI co-founder has closely followed the company’s powerful expansion into the artificial intelligence market, and especially the ChatGPT chatbot. The billionaire also wants a moratorium on regulating artificial intelligence.

However, not everything is black: “With AI we have created an era of abundance, all services will be available on demand. This is the silver lining of artificial intelligence: abundance,” he stated.

“AI is going to be a disruptive power, the most important in all of history,” he adds. “Humans are smarter than other creators. But for the first time, we may have a ‘being’ smarter than us,” Elon Musk said.

“We eliminated 90% of the bots on Twitter”

“On Twitter we defend freedom of expression, but not freedom of realization,” he said about his social network. Elon Musk has defended his record at the head of the platform.

On the leak of advertisers, Elon Musk assured that “they would return”. And to clinch: “I see the future optimistically”, recognizing the “tremendous” work of the new head of Twitter, Linda Yaccarino.

“Starlink has played a crucial role in Ukraine”

Asked about the war in Ukraine, while Starlink provided kits to the Ukrainians to secure the internet connection destroyed by the Russians, he explained that “the situation is very complex. Starlink played a crucial role because Russia destroyed all communication systems and Starlink is the only one that could last,” said Elon Musk.

Elon Musk was also shocked by the lack of resolution of the ongoing war: “It is extremely sad that Ukrainian and Russian youth are dying on the battlefields right now.”

Tesla, a pioneering company

Asked several times about Tesla, Elon Musk recalled that the company produces 2 million vehicles a year, or 2% of world production.

He went back to the beginnings of the company: “There was a need for Tesla because there were no electric vehicles at that time, no company in this field, no start-up.”

“Creating multiplanetary life” with SpaceX

On his goals for SpaceX, Elon Musk said he wanted to end up “creating multiplanetary life” and therefore beyond Earth.

The billionaire, however, wants to expand his activities beyond Earth and visit other systems. Elon Musk takes as an example the first step on the Moon in 1969, “the most formidable thing that Man has done”.

He ended his speech by evoking the Neuralink chips, indicating that “this year the first implant will be carried out in a tetraplegic human person.”
