The story was too good. On the morning of June 28, Internet users and the site specialized in good deals Dealabs reported a strange phenomenon on Amazon: products, theoretically expensive, available for only 1 euro. Among them, many pieces of furniture, but also barbecues, through garden accessories.
If such promises can often correspond to scams, it was not: in fact, it is a banal manual error, coming from an external seller, Amazon specifies Tech&Co.
canceled orders
On Amazon, in fact, it is possible to find three types of products: those sold and shipped by Amazon, those sold by an external seller but shipped by Amazon, and those sold and shipped by an external seller.
In this third situation, Amazon only plays the role of a marketplace, integrating these offers into its platform, without ever interacting with the customer. Legally, in the event of a problem, the Internet user cannot resort to the American platform.
Following the quick distribution of the “good plan”, the seller (vidaXL, a company based in the Netherlands) immediately revised their copy to re-establish the correct prices. Meanwhile, many internet users posted screenshots of their orders on Twitter, hoping to take advantage of an exceptional discount.
In most cases, the orders were canceled by the seller, who was perfectly within their rights. Indeed, according to article 1169 of the civil code, a merchant who has set an incorrect price can reject the transaction, if the price reported is “illusory or derisory”.
With Tech & Co, Amazon claims to have closely followed the situation and accompanied the merchant, recalling that it is up to the latter to determine the result that it would give to all orders. The company did not want to communicate the number of affected products.
