An Indian boss from the city of Bangalore has provoked the ire of Internet users after declaring on Twitter on July 10 that 90% of his employees had been replaced by artificial intelligence, says the specialized media Phonandroid. The employees were presumably customer service.
Head of Dukaan, an application dedicated to the rapid launch of specialized e-commerce websites, Suumit Shah has thus been widely criticized on social networks, accused of having praised the replacement of human employees by robots.
In his tweet, he also justifies this decision by highlighting the results: “response time went from 1:44 to instant, problem resolution time went from 2:13 to 3:12, customer service costs dropped by about 85%,” he said.
profitability first
The boss assumes in his words the fact that he has prioritized profitability above all else. The post did not move netizens, who mainly blame Shah for lacking empathy in appearing to celebrate the situation.
“There is no reason to celebrate this publicly,” said another. “Maybe it was a good decision, but she didn’t deserve this celebration,” says one last.
The sudden and rapid rise of artificial intelligence, and more specifically chatbots like ChatGPT and Bard, is raising fears about employment. Last March, a Goldman Sachs study estimated the number of jobs that artificial intelligence could replace at 300 million.
