Netflix is rolling out a new profile transfer feature to make the process of finalizing account swapping easier, the streaming platform announced in a press release on Wednesday, July 12.
As of this date, it is possible to transfer the account data to an existing account, so as not to lose your history, your lists, your games, but also your personalized recommendations, and thus merge everything with the data and settings of a existing Netflix account.
“Highly Requested” Option
To activate this option, simply hover over the icon for the profile in question, then select “transfer a profile” from the dropdown menu that appears. Next, a series of instructions are followed.
Previously, this option was only intended for a transfer to a new account. Netflix says in its press release that this update was “highly requested.” Naturally, it echoes the end of free Netflix account sharing, implemented by the platform since last May.
In fact, Netflix account sharing has since become a paid option, billed at 5.99 euros per month, and paid for by the account holder. This decision by the streaming platform notably triggered a subscription boom in the United States.
