Previously, having a person’s phone number was not enough to communicate with them on WhatsApp. It was imperative that I was registered as one of your contacts before initiating an exchange. Certainly it was possible to use stratagems to achieve one’s ends. But the ordeal is over.
A few weeks ago, WhatsApp added the ability to search for a person in the app by their username. But now it is possible to start chatting from a simple number. The search bar, which appears when you start a new conversation, will be able to find a person present based on their phone number.
Available to everyone now
If the person you want to contact is on WhatsApp, the app will find them. It then appears in a “Not in your contacts” category, but still leaves the ability to “Discuss” thanks to a button attached to the card.
And as icing on the cake, this new function is not part of the privileges that a “beta” version grants. It is now available to all users, both on iOS and Android.
In recent months, the messaging application has greatly improved its offer by offering new possibilities. Thus, users can hide intimate conversations by blocking them with a code. Also, messages can be edited up to 15 minutes after they are sent.
How to send a message to someone who is not in your contacts
- On the main screen, open a new chat by clicking the green button at the bottom right
- Then click on the magnifying glass at the top right and type the number
- If you are linked to a WhatsApp account, a “chat” button appears
