The return of an event that marked the Internet in 2022. Last year, the “Pixel War” ignited the Internet by pitting French Internet users against American Internet users. The new edition of Place returns to Reddit this July 20, the platform announced.
The return of Place will probably mark the return of Pixel War. In this game, the idea is to fill a gigantic empty squaree, a kind of blank virtual canvas of 4 million pixels with a format of 2000 x 2000 pixels, invited by Internet users from all over the world to impose their colors, shapes, logos and flags.
To frame the exercise, Reddit has laid down some simple rules: Every internet user can color a single pixel every five minutes, choosing one of the 32 colors offered.
The 2022 edition had mobilized thousands of French Internet users, in particular against Spain and the United States. A phenomenon that goes beyond the Reddit universe. The streamer Kameto had mobilized his community to erect a huge virtual French flag in homage to national symbols such as Zinedine Zidane, the Arc de Triomphe or Thomas Pesquet. Other streamers had joined the challenge such as Etoiles, Squeezie, Zérator, Amine, Inoxtag or even Antoine Daniel.
The first edition took place in 2017 and netizens had to wait four years before seeing the second one appear in 2022. Launched on Friday, April 1, the second edition ended on Monday, April 4.
