Will Apple roll out an update to comply with ANFR requests? On September 12, the National Frequency Agency asked the manufacturer to return to normal, following results above the level of the member SAR standards (5.7 W/kg versus 4 W/kg) of the iPhone 12. With the threat of ordering the withdrawal from the market of the iPhone 12 in circulation in sight.
The SAR member corresponds to the maximum wave emissions of a smartphone, when held in one hand or placed in a trouser pocket. As for SAR measurements on the head (when the device is attached to the ear), the iPhone 12 complies with the regulations. Other versions of the iPhone 12 are not affected.
“Completely classic” procedure
As ANFR confirms to Tech&Co, talks with Apple began about a year ago.
He also describes this procedure as “completely classic”, specifying that 42 mobile phones of different brands have already faced warnings of the same nature. In total, 6 devices had to be withdrawn from the market, due to the lack of updates offered by the brands. A result that the ANFR hopes will be more favorable for Apple.
Still with Tech&Co, the ANFR returns to the time elapsed between the launch of the mobile in France (end of 2020) and the first tests carried out, mentioning a particularly intense control schedule, in particular due to the deployment of 5G.
For the moment, and despite the threat of product withdrawal, the ANFR assures that it has not received any comments from Apple, which has since recalled that its iPhone 12 complies with all international regulations, publicly questioning the results of the ANFR.
