PS5, PS4: Accounts banned by Sony have been restored without explanation

Many American Playstation Network users could no longer access their suddenly banned accounts.

Some Playstation Network subscribers have had their accounts banned since Monday, December 4, without any explanation. While Sony has not yet commented on this issue, all accounts appear to have been restored this Wednesday, December 6.

Internet users had warned about these bans on social networks and had received a large number of responses confirming the malfunction.

This X user (former Twitter) had indicated, for example, that his account had been suddenly banned without any explanation or possibility of recourse. On the Reddit forum and even on Instagram, many users have reported the same experience.

Accounts restored

All affected users received a message stating that “this account is permanently banned due to a violation of the platform’s terms and conditions of use.” They were then disconnected with no possibility of return.

Since then, the specialized media The Verge states that the majority of users have been able to access their accounts again. The Playstation Network account contains, in particular, the library of games purchased and downloaded by players and can therefore represent a certain economic value for players, hence the concern of not being able to access them.

Sony has yet to comment on these unexplained bans and has not published any reports of malfunctions. Furthermore, the latter seems to have only affected user accounts based in the United States.
