Iran announced this Wednesday that it has placed a capsule with animals in orbit and is preparing missions with humans that should take place in the coming years.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Telecommunications, Isa Zarepour, cited in a report by the official IRNA news agency.
The government official said that the capsule was launched into orbit, at a distance of 130 kilometers.
Zarepour stated that the launch of the 500-kilogram capsule aims to send Iranian astronauts to space in the coming years.
The type of animals that were in the capsule has not been revealed, writes the AP news agency.
From time to time, Iranian authorities announce successful launches of satellites and other spacecraft.
In September, Iran said it had sent a data-gathering satellite into space.
In 2013, it was reported that a capsule was launched, carrying a monkey, which returned it “safely” to Earth.
