Altice Portugal announced this Friday that it is prepared to “support more than 150,000 devices” at the Web Summit, as a technological partner of the event that starts in Lisbon on November 1.
“In the history of the Lisbon Web Summit there are more than 288 Terabytes of traffic generated and more than 51,000 unique devices connected, per day, registered throughout its five editions (not counting 2020 given the ‘online’ format of the event) , says the owner of Meo, in a statement.
These are numbers “that demonstrate the quality and resilience of Altice Portugal’s infrastructure, experience and ‘know-how’ [conhecimento] acquired in the main national events, as well as the work carried out by the company in the promotion of innovation and national talent”, he adds.
Technology “has provided the venues where the Web Summit is taking place (Altice Arena and FIL) with full coverage of fixed, mobile and high-density ‘WiFi’ networks, appropriate to the level of demand and the international dimension of the event, which this year more than 70,000 participants are expected”.
For the first time, he underlines, “the entire event venue will be covered with 5G, which will provide visitors with even faster coverage, with lower latency in communications and with more robust mobile networks.”
In the seventh edition of the Web Summit, Altice Portugal highlights the “capacity to support 150,000 devices simultaneously on the ‘wireless’ network”, as well as nearly 50 kilometers of installed network cable and fiber optics.
Throughout the event, more than “700 ‘WiFi’ antennas, 400 ‘Access Points’ and 300 ‘switches’ were installed”, says the owner of Meo.
“In an action that takes more than two months to prepare and with the participation of a team of more than 160 employees, 100 of whom are from technical areas, the entire fixed and mobile network will be supervised at two geographical points redundant places to monitor the event”, he stresses.
In the operator’s ‘War Room’, which will be installed ‘in loco’ on the premises, “there will be a team prepared to intervene immediately, if necessary, and which will be in close and permanent coordination with the management center and supervision based in Picoas”, he adds.
The seventh edition of the Web Summit, which has more than 70,000 participants, 2,630 startups and companies, 1,120 investors and 1,040 speakers, starts in Lisbon on November 1 and ends on November 4.
