Google sentenced to pay 26 million euros to a French company

The ruling indicates that Google, through two online advertising services, favored its own tools to the detriment of its competitor Equativ.

Google was ordered on Monday to compensate the French company Equativ with 26.5 million euros for anti-competitive practices in online advertising, AFP learned on Friday, according to information from mindMedia.

The ruling, handed down by the Paris commercial court and consulted by AFP, indicates that Google, through two online advertising services, favored its own tools to the detriment of its competitor Equativ.

The court relied on a decision of the Competition Authority issued in 2021, which condemned Google to pay a fine of 220 million euros for its practices in the online advertising market.

Equativ, a French company present in this same market, had initiated proceedings against Google in 2022 and demanded payment of an amount of 369.1 million euros to repair the damage suffered.

But the commercial court in Paris refused to rule on possible damages outside France and therefore decided on much lower compensation.

The company also spoke about its commitments to the Competition Authority, assumed after its conviction in 2021.

At the moment, the company has not said whether an appeal of the decision is planned.

Contacted by AFP, Equativ did not immediately react.
