Since the arrival of Elon Musk at the head of the social network Twitter, the company has experienced one of the largest waves of layoffs in its history. Nearly half of employees worldwide are affected, some of whom were called up just days after their forced departure.
In the vast majority of cases, employees were informed of their departure through a simple email. And not everyone seems to leave on an equal footing. The employees of the Ghanaian offices of Twitter, the only anchor on the African continent, were almost all fired on November 4, without benefiting from any advantage, unlike their American peers, reports the CNN channel on November 9. According to information from the channel, only one person would have kept his job.
“CNN obtained the dismissal message sent to the only Twitter office on the African continent, in Accra [Ghana, NDLR]. It was emailed to them, but does not mention any of their names. Unlike the United States, no compensation or exit assistance is offered, ”reveals the chain.
Visibly shorter than the one sent to US employees, this email soberly indicates a “reorganization of operations as a result of the need to reduce costs.” With CNN, an employee testifies anonymously about the brutality of the device, which he considers “insulting.”
A measure all the more abrupt given that the “physical” offices in Accra have just been opened, just four days before the layoffs. The announcement of the creation of these premises had been made in April 2021, the date from which the employees worked remotely.
