Apple had announced, during its annual keynote address in early September, the establishment of an emergency satellite system, which allows any iPhone 14 user, all models combined, to contact emergency services in the event of network failure. net.
This new feature would initially be limited to users in Canada and the United States, but will eventually roll out to some European countries in December, Apple announced in a press release on Tuesday, November 15. Good news, since this device has not been expected for at least a few years on the continent.
For now, the countries where this feature will be offered are France, Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It is available today in Canada and the United States.
A simple and fast system
Starting in December, French iPhone 14 owners will be able to use satellite calls. As a reminder, the application allows, if you are in a white zone, to connect to the nearest satellite to contact the emergency services, for example, in the event of an accident during a hike in the mountains. .
Once the connection is established, a series of written questions are posed to the user, and the answers are transmitted to an Apple official and, finally, to the corresponding emergency service. Apple describes the interface as simple and fast to use. The fact of offering this service in the form of a questionnaire to be completed allows, in particular, shorter transmission times.
