European target users who want to oppose the use of their data to train their generative artificial intelligence models (AI) have until May 27 to oppose through a form on Tuesday, AFP said.

Mother House of Facebook, Threads and Social Instagram Networks announced at the beginning of the week that all the public content of her platforms, except her private messages of WhatsApp, would now be used to train their generative models, unless users oppose it.

A negative not always respected

This refers in particular to the publications, the photos and their legend, the comments published in it, as well as the requests and questions sent to Messenger to Meta AI, the conversational robot available since the end of March in the European Union. A notification must inform European users of this new policy by then and provide a link to this form of rejection.

“If you objece, we will send an email confirming that we will no longer use your public information about the finish line or your interactions with the goal functionalities AI for the purposes of development and improvement of the generative models of AI destined for goal AI,” explains the technological giant in the aid pages of Facebook and Instagram.

The American company also specifies that this opposition will also apply to all accounts linked to those used to send the form. However, he warns that it is likely to continue processing information about users who have expressed their rejection in certain situations, especially when their information appears in an image shared publicly or mentioned by another user.

This change should not concern accounts of children under 18, nor the private messages of adult users “with their friends and family,” said the giant of social networks.

WhatsApp data and conversations with goal AI in this application are not affected.
