“Pitoyable College”: Google will deactivate the qualifications of schools on maps

This measure will apply to “general education establishments” at the end of April worldwide. Existing opinions and notes will also be eliminated.

The opinions and notes given to schools around the world by users of the Google Maps mapping application will be deactivated at the end of April, AFP learned from the American technological giant on Wednesday.

“Pitoyable College”, “rotten” or “horrible teachers” are, therefore, part of the comments that can be found in the pages of Parisian universities, as an AFP journalist pointed out on Wednesday.

Good news for unions

The group specifies that this measure will apply to “general education establishments” worldwide and will be implemented at the end of April. Your deployment should take several weeks. Existing opinions and notes will also be eliminated.

The Google Maps application allows users to write down on a scale of 1 to 5 in the places where they go and leave all kinds of comments. If practice is common for hotels and restaurants, it also provides the possibility of observing primary schools, universities or secondary schools.

In recent years, several organizations such as the SNALC (National Union of Secondary Schools and Schools) and the SNES-FS (National Union of Second Decrees) have denounced the appearance of these qualifications.

Faced with these notes and the various classifications of schools, the Ministry of National Education has established indicators of “added value” (invis) of secondary schools and schools.

The purpose of these indicators is to get away from raw success rates in the BAC or the patent, often the most examined by the parents, and which generally highlights establishments of elite, public or private.
