A worrying warning. This is the medium that Apple found to dissuade Europeans to download applications that do not use the payment system for their app store. In fact, users have noticed that a warning now appears at the top of the Hungarian instant application, which provides information on used cars.
“This application does not support the private and safe payment system of the App Store. Use external purchases,” said the warning message, along with which an exclamation point is in a red triangle. A sign that suggests that it is dangerous.
Instacar, which is not available in France, is the fifth most downloaded application in the category of economy and business in Hungary. It also has an average note of 4.8 of 5.
Risk of new sanctions
The warning message also includes a link to a support page to give more information to users. In this case, Apple warns them that to make a purchase in applications using alternative payments, “you must provide information and confirm your payment directly from the developer, either in the application or on an accessible website from the application.”
Apple also specifies that the PPP Store payment functions, such as purchasing history or family exchange, are not available for these applications.
With these warnings, the company can be criticized again by the European Commission, which recently sanctioned it. Since March 2024, with digital markets (DMA), Apple has been forced to allow users to go through other payment platforms than their application store, but also install other application stores.
In April, the European Commission inflicted a fine of 500 million euros, accusing it of hindering competition by preventing developers from directing users to the cheapest offers outside their App Store.
