7,035,236. This is the amount of transmission platform accounts that were pirated last year after a report by the Kaspersky company. Five are worried, namely Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Max.
As expected, Netflix, which is the first transmission service in the world with more than 300 million subscribers, is the most affected. After Netflix comes Disney+, with 680,850 commitment accounts. Again, Brazil and Mexico are the two countries with the largest amount of pirate accounts. Germany closes the podium. Amazon Prime Video is the third transmission platform with the most compromised accounts (1,607). And France is one of the most affected countries, behind Mexico and Brazil.
Kaspersky specifies that for the millions of pirated accounts, the information “has not been stolen directly on the platforms themselves, but were collected in the context of larger campaigns of theft of identifiers.” Cybercriminals have managed to steal this information with malware, which users have installed without their knowledge with pirate content, browser extensions or commitment applications.
“What begins with a Netflix commitment password can quickly become a larger digital intrusion, identity theft or financial fraud,” especially if the identifiers themselves are reused in several services, “Kaspersky warns.
Therefore, the company advises to modify the potentially compromised accounts passwords, but also to ensure that no suspicious activity has been detected. Also recommend seeing the authenticity of websites before entering personal information or downloading only official platform applications or websites.
