Microsoft continues its efforts to comply with the Digital Markets Law (DMA). In force since March 6, 2024, this law imposes rules on the company, as well as other American giants, to maintain healthy competition among digital players. If they are not respected, they risk a fine of up to 10% of their turnover.
It is in this context that Microsoft has announced several changes related to Windows in the European economic area. To start, the company will no longer try to impose its edge browser. Specifically, “Microsoft Edge will no longer invite you to define it as a predetermined browser, unless it opens it directly,” he said in a blog article.
In addition, when one user defines another predetermined browser, it will automatically set in the taskbar, unless you do not want.
Microsoft Store delusion
Allowing European users to uninstall Edge since 2023, Microsoft specifies that their other applications will no longer invite them to reinstall it. In addition to its browser, the company will also allow you to uninstall your application store.
Like Edge, European Internet users will have the opportunity to reinstall the Microsoft store. In its blog article, the company said that some of the changes announced were already available. Edge have not been imposed, for example, from an update of the browser published on May 29. Regarding the uninstall of the Microsoft store, they will have to wait “at the end of this year,” as Microsoft indicates.
