Chatgpt’s improved memory is available for free users

ChatGPT offers its best memory functionality to all free users who will benefit from a reduced version of this memory.

He will remember his old conversations perfectly. As of June 3, 2025, Chatgpt extends its best memory functionality. This characteristic was previously reserved for certain countries and accounts payable (more and professional). It is now widespread because it is accessible to free and European accounts.

Lighter memory for free accounts

Specifically, this addition of memory allows ChatgPT to be based on old conversations with its users to remember their preferences. The function prevents users from remembering certain discussions of Chatbot. Operai had detailed functionality when it was launched for professional accounts and more in April 2025:

However, there is a difference between professional accounts and more and free accounts. The latter has a “lightened” version of memory, which allows them to benefit from a “memory that guarantees short -term continuity between conversations,” said OpenAi’s press release.

How to activate improved memory

To comply with European regulations, functionality will not be activated by default. To benefit from it in the mobile application, for example, it will be necessary to press the “Disabled Memory” button, visible when you open the application. Then it will be necessary to activate the “See the memorized elements”.

If the button is not visible, it must go to “configuration”, then “customization”, then “memory”, to fall into the same menu. This is the same for the chatgpt version in the browser.

If neither of the two solutions works, it is surely necessary to update the chatgpt application. However, by activating improved memory, keep in mind that the function will use data from your previous conversations.
