An incident that should not have happened. As the site of the Android authority Vio, the owner of a Google Pixel 6a told Reddit that his smartphone had caught fire. If this has already happened with other people with this device, the difference with this user is that the update implemented by Google to prevent the Pixel 6A battery from overheating has been installed on your smartphone.
The company announced this update in early July, which indicates that it was mandatory in some of these models “to reduce the possibility of battery overheating that could present a risk for users.” This joins the 6A Pixel battery for the models in question.
However, this did not prevent the user’s battery from being overheating, then in its 6th pixel it set fires. As shown in the photos he shared, the screen of his smartphone and the housing melted. The internal components have also been carbonized.
“An unpleasant smell and a deafening noise”
The user left unharmed, but it could have been much more serious. “An unpleasant smell and a deafening noise
The smartphone “was placed less than 40 cm from my head, in my nightstand at night. (…) I had a throat pain all day due to the smoke that I inhaled (the door of my room was closed due to the enlightened air conditioning, so I breathed the smoke more than I would have liked to prevent a fire from spreading),” he added.
The sheets also caught fire. Keep in mind that the user had not used an official Google charger to recharge their 6A pixel, but a 45W charger for the steam deck.
The Pixel 6A is not the only Google smartphone that has a battery overheating problem. Earlier this year, the company also announced the implementation of a similar update for Pixel 4A to deal with this risk. In April, he also extended his repair program for Pixel 7A, due to certain models whose battery can inflate “unexpectedly.”
