Tens of thousands of tourist identity documents have been stolen from Italian hotels servers and sold on the dark website, alerted the Italian digital agency (Agid).
“These are tens of thousands of scanning in high passports, identity cards and other identity documents used by customers during registration operations,” said the press release.
Almost 100,000 stolen documents
The agency mentions almost 100,000 stolen documents. The author who put these documents for sale, known by the pseudonym “Mydocs”, said he obtained “thanks to unauthorized access to computer systems, between June and August 2025”.
The agency also alerts the “consequences for victims that can be serious, both economically and legal”, remembering that these data, once stolen “, can be used for fraudulent purposes: creation of false documents, opening of bank accounts, theft of digital identity.”
