PHILIPS EC now allows their lights to detect and scare thieves … or your cat

On the occasion of the IFA fair in Berlin, Philips Hue presented its new module to connect all its products in the house. And one of its new functions uses existing connected bulbs as a presence detector.

And the light was … even more useful! Initially simple lighting is required, then a pleasant and potable product for its comfort in the home with its connected versions (Wi -Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, etc.), the bulbs become a support for multiple uses, such as the LOFI Internet connection and, now, the detection of people.

This is the announcement made by Philips Hue at the last IFA fair in Berlin (Germany) in parallel with its new connection bridge, the Hue Bridge Pro. More powerful and versatile (up to 150 lights and about fifty compatible devices, up to 500 scenes taken into account, more fluidity), this home automation center will enrich the possibilities of the manufacturer’s lighting, but also transform the existing one.

Because the HUB Bridge Pro wants to make its connected bulbs and the Hue Philips accessories already installed real presence sensors thanks to the conscious function of the Hue movement. The set is based on radiofrequency detection technology through the Zigbee protocol. The conscious movement of the movement will supervise the interference in the signals (passage of a person, an animal, etc.). As soon as the radio network is interrupted, a movement is reported and adjustable lighting is illuminated.

Differentiate a human dog

At least three bulbs/accessories are needed in a room, separated from one to seven meters, as well as the Bridge Pro, essential, to create a detection zone, without adding presence sensors. Then, the user calibrates the piece to define the area, but also sensitivity. This will avoid being less alerted by your cat’s passage in the field compared to a thief.

All this is possible thanks to the new connection bridge that brings much more power and memory with a more efficient processor to administer the necessary algorithms. It will support the Hue Zigbee bulbs, after an update, provided they are supplied electrically. Lighting and battery devices are not compatible, as well as certain too old light tapes.

Once the system is in place, the conscious movement will send notifications to users if a movement is detected in the defined area. The intruder will see a light that lights up, flashes strongly, etc. These detections and actions can be part of a broader home automation scenario with cameras and alarms.

Note that a safe subscription is needed to take advantage of the complementary characteristics of the movement, such as alerts or notifications.
