The PC market grows again thanks to the (postponed) end of Windows 10

In its latest report, the analysis firm IDC reports a significant increase in computer sales around the world, with Asia and Europe leading the way.

The world is actively preparing for the end of support for Windows 10. A crucial period, which will end on October 14, despite a conditional postponement granted by Microsoft, and which is undoubtedly related to the significant increase in sales to computer distributors; therefore, these are not direct sales to consumers.

According to a report published by the analysis company IDC, in the third quarter of 2025 (August-October) the number of PCs delivered to resellers increased by 9.4%, to a total of 75.8 million units.

It took four years for Windows 11 to finally become Microsoft’s most popular operating system. According to Stat Counter, it now represents more than 50% of the market share.

The United States remains stuck in customs tariffs

However, the results still differ greatly by region. In the American market, for example (+1%), the impact of customs duties continues to be felt. In Europe, deliveries increased by 9%, but it is mainly Asia that drives the sector, with double-digit growth (+14%).

Beyond the end of support for Windows 10, it is also the Unicef program, Giga, that allows sales to be maintained. In this context, Unicef wants to connect “all schools to the Internet”, and this involves new devices that equip classrooms.

Computer manufacturers can smile, as almost all of them are increasing year after year.

First, Lenovo has a market share of 25.5% (+2.7%), followed by HP with 19.8% (+0.2%) and Dell with 13.3% (-0.9%). Apple is in fourth place with 9% (+0.3%).

More generally, IDC estimates that these good figures should continue to be confirmed in 2026. Faced with the revolt of consumer defense associations, Microsoft offered a year of additional support, with the condition of connecting to your online account from Windows.
