A smartphone with a mini robot. This is Honor’s new project, presented on October 15, on the occasion of the launch of Magic8 in China. This is the “Robot Phone”, a new format that “exceeds the limits of the traditional smartphone”, according to the Chinese manufacturer. But, at the moment, it is still in the concept phase.
At first glance, it looks like today’s smartphones, as shown in a video (all or part of it in computer-generated images, generated by artificial intelligence?). Then, its appearance changes, with the rear photo module opening to release a gimbal-like robot that climbs to the top of the device.
Propose a revolutionary smartphone
By integrating AI-driven multimodal intelligence, robotic capabilities and advanced mobile imaging techniques, the latter would help the user on a daily basis. “It embodies the vision of an emotionally intelligent phone, capable of feeling, evolving and coexisting with its user, thus becoming a true life companion,” said Honor.
As seen in the video, the Robot Phone could take a photo of its owner with friends, help them choose their outfit for an event or even comfort a baby.
This concept is part of the manufacturer’s Honor Alpha Plan, presented last March at MWC Barcelona. This strategy aims, in particular, to inaugurate a new smart world, the first step of which will be to design a revolutionary smartphone equipped with “human-centered artificial intelligence” to “maximize human potential.”
“We couldn’t help but wonder: what if there could be a device… Equipped with the super brain of AI, which perceives the world around you in an instant; endowed with the super mobility of a robot, sharing the highlights of your life; and capable of transforming into a personal camera, capturing every precious memory with precision,” says Honor on a page dedicated to the Robot Phone to explain its approach.
However, we will have to wait a few months before we know. The manufacturer will meet in March 2026, at MWC Barcelona, for “the world premiere.”
