Fiber optics has become “for the first time” the majority connection medium in France among all high and very high speed Internet subscriptions, according to data published on Thursday, September 8 by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Arcep) .
At the end of June, 16.3 million fiber subscriptions (FttH, Fiber to the Home, or fiber optics to the home) were registered in the country, that is, 51% of the market for high and very high speed connections ( +11 points in one year).
A high deployment rate
In terms of deployments, the pace of operators remained at a high level during the second quarter with an additional 1.2 million FttH connectable premises.
Arcep, however, points to an insufficient rate observed in “very dense areas”, where the production of new lines has fallen compared to the same period last year.
In total, 32 million premises are now eligible for FttH offers in France, an increase of 16% in one year, the regulator specifies. The government has announced the goal of a fully fiber-filled France by 2025.
