Oppo Find N2 Flip, the competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 that wants to do even better

On the occasion of Inno Day 2022 that takes place this week, Oppo has presented a lot of new software and hardware. And among these, two folding smartphones: the Oppo Find N2 and the Find N2 Flip that will arrive in France.

It may well be that 2023 is finally the year of the foldable smartphone. To believe, in any case, the latest announcements from manufacturers. It is true that this was already planned for 2020 following in the footsteps of galaxy fold and Flip from Samsung, but the Covid has been there and swept the market in its turmoil, with component shortages in particular. A market that probably wasn’t ready for change either.

This time, it may well be. If Samsung has already unveiled a Galaxy Z Fold 4 that folds horizontally and a Galaxy Z Flip 4, its counterpart that folds in half vertically, Xiaomi, Honor, motorola or even Vivo has competitors planned shortly. Oppo, in turn, shoots down its new cards.

The Find N2 Flip as a serious challenger

And they will materialize in two proposals: Find N2 and Find N2 Flip. On the occasion of its Inno Day 2022 event taking place this week, the Chinese manufacturer hinted at them, revealing a little more about its strategy in this market segment scandalously dominated by Samsung. And it’s the Find N2 Flip, a direct competitor to the Z Flip 4, that will have the daunting task of leading the charge globally.

If the Find N introduced in 2019 was limited to China, the Find N2 Flip will launch in 2023 in several countries, including France, after an imminent launch in the Middle Kingdom. It picks up the design of the Z Flip4 with a straight-edge bezel, a large 6.8-inch OLED display that folds in half to offer a 3.26-inch vertical front panel.

This is also one of the differentiating points with Samsung: an external screen twice as large to be much more than a notification reader and serve as a screen to preview your selfie or normal photos (it is even possible to keep it at 90 ° in flexible mode). .

Because with its first smartphone in Flip format, Oppo promises to solve several problems with foldable phones. And this also affects autonomy. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 didn’t shine with its rapidly draining battery, the Find N2 Flip packs a 4300mAh battery to easily last more than a day and supports super fast charging. To make it consume less energy, Oppo preferred to equip it with a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor that better manages resources. There is also a dual photo sensor that is used to take photos, but also selfies.

The closed design has been studied to fit in a pocket or in the palm of the hand, but that does not prevent the Asian giant from making concessions in the essential operation. The crease is meant to be invisible. To achieve this, Oppo has reworked its Flex Hinge to make it slimmer, smaller but even more robust. It is made of carbon fiber and a resistant alloy used in aeronautics. There are still 100 elements, which are however 36 parts less than the first generation of Find N.

Oppo Find N2, an excellent model that France still rejects

The second generation of Find N is also arriving very soon, the smartphone proposal that unfolds to offer a larger screen. With its more compact size than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 or the closed Huawei Mate Xs 2 (132.2 x 72.6 x 14.6 mm), it fits easily in the hand and offers a 5. 54 inches. This makes it a small-format smartphone without being massive. It’s also quite light for its concept (233g for the black vegetable leather-backed version, 237g for the dark green and silver).

When opened, the Find N2 displays an ultra-bright 7.1-inch Oled HDR10+ screen (up to 1550 nits), with a variable image refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz to adapt the performance and power of the slab to your activity. This allows you to display multiple apps at the same time. It is also very thin (7.4mm).

On the back, there are three photosensors, including a 50 MP main sensor, a 48 MP ultra-wide angle, and a 32 MP 2x telephoto lens, all designed with Hasselblad. It also offers 4K video and the ability to film or photograph by positioning the device at 90°.

The Oppo Find N2 also promises to be very powerful with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, 5G compatibility, long-lasting battery (4520 mAh) and super-fast 67W charging. But, like most devices with a folding screen, it doesn’t have certified waterproof. That does not prevent it from resisting splashes, says Oppo.

“Foldable smartphones are one of Oppo’s most important product focus areas,” said Billy Zhang, president of international sales and services. With the Find N2 and Find N2 Flip, Oppo confidently enters the fray in this growing segment.” And the company even says it is ready to invest in foldable smartphones for the long term.

But this will already happen through the Find N2 Flip that the brand will launch worldwide in the first quarter of 2023. A model that, according to it, meets the expectations of users who are more fond of vertically folding models, such as the Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr. Technological prowess with its slimmed-down yet robust hinge, which makes screen bending to a minimum, the Find N2 will still be waiting outside of China. The fault in particular of the very popular applications in the West (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) whose display is not yet optimized for a rather square screen.
