As of mid-afternoon this Thursday, September 15, the line in front of Westminster measures more than 6.5 kilometers, and it continues to lengthen. This is indicated by the video broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the British Digital Department.
Britons have sometimes had to wait more than seven hours so far to see Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin, which lies in Westminster Hall at the Palace of Westminster in London until Monday.
“Please note that the queue is expected to be very long,” reads the UK Parliament’s official website. “You will have to be on your feet for many hours, possibly all night, with very little opportunity to sit down, as the queue will continue to wag.” The British will have to take their problems patiently in “a great disciplined and good-natured line”, reports AFP.
Unsurprisingly, people are fascinated by the size of the queue. More than 11,000 people are watching the live stream as of mid-afternoon Thursday.
Impressed netizens
The reactions on social networks did not take long to flow, like this tweet shared more than 20,000 times.
Parliament makes other tools available. The queue itself is such a huge logistics operation that the government has published a specific map for it, showing a route complete with water and aid stations stretching for miles along the Thames.
A special page has also been created on the City of London transport website to help Brits and tourists get around in the coming days.
