The issue has become central to Ukraine: SpaceX last week decided to restrict its Starlink service in the country to prevent Kiev’s use of combat drones. This decision was heavily criticized: Elon Musk’s constellation, which offers internet access without the need for terrestrial infrastructure, has become one of the only media outlets on the front line.
This Sunday, Elon Musk thus responded to yet another criticism, that of former astronaut Scott Kelly, who questions SpaceX’s decision. “Defending against a genocidal invasion is not an offensive capability. It is survival. Innocent lives will be lost,” he said.
“Starlink is the backbone of Ukraine’s communications, especially at the front, where almost all other Internet connections have been destroyed,” he continues. “But we will not allow the conflict to escalate, which could lead to World War III.”
This is not the first time that Elon Musk has criticized the “propaganda” of the media, described as “biased” or “hateful” according to him.
Last October, Elon Musk had already caused controversy by stating that the US Pentagon finances the use of Starlink over Ukraine.
