Where will the money from Salto’s subscribers go? For a few days, the platform, still functional, no longer accepts new subscriptions. A transitory situation, given a very probable disappearance of the service in the coming weeks. For some clients, the financial bets are limited: the monthly plan (8 euros per month) can be canceled at any time. But for other users, the loss could amount to tens of euros.
Despite the company’s many financial difficulties, Salto decided to launch an annual plan at the end of 2022. For one-year access, subscribers had to pay 70 euros, all at once. All this with an automatically renewable subscription, according to the terms and conditions of Salto. A possible cash gain for the platform, which however raises concerns on the part of subscribers regarding the possibility of recovering part of the sum when Salto stops.

Questioned by Tech&Co, Salto management does not want to comment on this issue. Also contacted, the platform’s customer service ensures that no refund is planned for the moment, in particular for customers affected by the recent evolution of the offer. The latter has recently been impoverished with the cessation of the issuance of certain content in preview and disappearance of programs flagships like Plus belle la vie.
With a forced liquidation placement of Salto, there would be little hope that clients would recover their participation, even in proportion to the months already paid. Indeed, Salto is an independent company from the three media groups that originated it (France Télévisions, TF1 and M6).
“In case of forced liquidation, the consumer is the last link in the payment order. If there is cash left in the company, it must first pay its debts to the State, its employees and its suppliers,” recalls Emma Leoty, consumer law attorney at Tech&Co. . In case of liquidation, only a commercial gesture could allow a refund.
Of Salto’s approximately 600,000 paying subscribers, it is impossible to know the share of annual package subscribers. With an offer launched at the end of 2022, however, these customers are likely to have already footed the bill for much of 2023. A year during which they may ultimately not be able to take advantage of the service.
