After a hectic launch, the Twitter Blue subscription is up and running. Researcher Travis Brown, seen by the media mashableTO identified thousands of accounts who chose not to participate.
Cardi B, Anthony Scaramucci -former director of communications for Donald Trump- and Ali Velshi of the US channel MSNBC, are among the accounts that appear to have unsubscribed from Twitter Blue. More surprisingly, Tesla, of which Elon Musk is the boss, appears on the exit list.
As a reminder, Twitter Blue is a subscription available for 9.60 euros per month (11 euros from iOS or Android) and allows, in particular, to obtain certifications, modify tweets or publish longer videos.
Travis Brown follows, therefore, the evolution of the number of Twitter Blue subscribers since the launch of the offer, two months ago. Thus, the week of February 6, 26,319 users unsubscribed or were removed from Twitter Blue. However, some precautions must be taken.
Twitter, away from the account
After a bug, some unsubscribed users still have the blue badge on their account. These users would be tracked as followers through the Twitter API. The researcher, using this API, noticed that some of the non-paying users were on his list, which can skew the numbers.
According to a press document InformationIn January, Twitter had 290,000 subscribers, including 180,000 in the United States. The subscription model is therefore far from compensating for the advertising losses suffered by Twitter.
