Soon the end of the stories of artists announcing tour dates or upcoming projects? Instagram wants to change the way the stars of its platform interact with their fans, as indicated in the company’s press release. For this, the social network of the Meta group launches “Channels”, a tool reserved for the most popular accounts, which will allow them to send texts, photos and videos, voice notes or even surveys, without time restrictions, to their subscribers. A tool identical to Telegram channels, which are increasingly used.
Small subtlety: fans will not be able to reply to these messages, as can be the case in stories or on a Discord server, for example, but they will still be able to interact through emojis.
Some accounts affected
To publicize this new feature, Mark Zuckerberg has created his own “Meta Channel”, indicating in passing that the next products of the Meta group will be announced first on this channel.
At the moment, a dozen creators, influencers but also well-known athletes, such as the American snowboarders and skiers Chloé Kim and Mikaela Shiffrin, can open their own “Channel”.
Instagram has also announced that other accounts will gradually provide this tool, which will soon be enriched with other options such as the possibility of adding another participant to your channel, to talk about a future artistic collaboration, for example.
Content reserved for very recent paid Meta Verified badge holders will also be offered. The rest of the content will be available to all subscribers of the account.
