One or two euros more. This is what a large part of French subscribers will have to pay for a telephone offer, or for a fixed internet package. As Le Parisien reminds us, the beginning of 2023 is marked by a general increase in prices in the telecommunications sector. Among the four competitors, only Free retains prices identical to 2022.
0.69 cents to 2 euros
Both in Orange and in SFR (Altice’s subsidiary, such as BFMTV) or Bouygues Telecom, price increases vary between 0.69 cents and two euros per month, depending on the initial value of the package.
In all cases, fixed and mobile offers are affected. Orange’s Open offer, which includes cash and a telephone plan, will thus increase by two euros per month starting in March, the newspaper recalls.
This price increase affects all operator brands, including their “low cost” versions, such as Sosh or RED by SFR, which present increases of the same order. In the face of any increase, the operators point out that customers are free to cancel their subscription to go to the competition.
“Explosion” of energy costs
With Tech&Co, SFR justifies this inflation by the rise in the prices of electronic components, raw materials or even logistics. With Le Parisien, Orange also evokes “a 120% explosion in energy costs for the mobile network”.
Expenses that could soon be offset by a new financial profit paid by American streaming giants such as Netflix and Google, pressured by the European Union to participate in the financing of the telecommunications sector.
At the end of 2022, the Fédération Française des Télécoms, which brings together all operators, recalled that with an average price of 15 euros per month for a 100 GB mobile plan, French offers were among the most affordable within the countries westerners. .
